Art Pricing & Freelance Rates

I don’t normally post my rates, as they tend to fluctuate depending on the content of a commission, I’m not going to quote the same amount for two full page pieces if one is more complex than the other.

But for a glimpse at my general pricing I will give you some ballparks numbers:

Illustrations

Full Page Cityscape:

  • One Time Rights: $180
  • First Rights: $195
  • Exclusivity Period, perpetual use license: $200
  • All Rights (Industry Exclusive): $275
  • All Rights (work-for-hire): $320

Half Page Cityscape:

  • One Time Rights: $80
  • First Rights: $90
  • Exclusivity Period, perpetual use license: $92
  • All Rights (Industry Exclusive): $100
  • All Rights (work-for-hire): $150
Quarter Page Towers/Buildings/City-tecture:
  • One Time Rights: $40
  • First Rights: $45
  • Exclusivity Period, perpetual use license: $45
  • All Rights (Industry Exclusive): $50
  • All Rights (work-for-hire): $75
As a reminder these are ballpark numbers, I often do stuff for less and sometimes for more depending on the type of piece and what it is being used for.

Layout/Design

I calculate my layout services through the following method:

(final page count  X  $2.60) + $60 = quote

This is not considering extra revisions, special digital tweaks (hyperlinking all page refereces and bookmarking), etc. This is just for a PDF and some print files. But again, this is a ballpark figure, if the book is small, a DIY project or something I often adjust my numbers. I also often adjust based on budget and type of text. If it is a novel? Man, that’s going to be less expensive of course than a tabletop rpg rulebook! And a super high end rpg rulebook may cost a little more depending on the size of the book!

In short…

If you want some definite numbers that fit your needs, your project, your publication, etc. Email me and tell me about the project so that I can send you some numbers that have been adjusted.
