A little over a month ago I finished designing a logo for Slade Stolar’s SCABLANDS PRESS. I have played in 2 sessions of Chris McDowalls Into the Odd (check it out, it is an awesome OSR-like RPG) with him in the past, and I have spoken to him a couple of times too!
As a shout out, I want to mention that he is designing a game called “100 Clones of Hitler” which a playtest version can be downloaded from his website (here!)
So, he had heard me talk about how much I like to design layouts for books (mostly within the Tabletop RPG field currently) and graphics (business cards and logos and such) and commissioned me to create a logo for SCABLANDS PRESS.
Here are the key ideas behind the design:
- The Scablands out in Washington has hexagonal rock formations. So hexes need to be involved.
- Slade is a fan of old-style presses, specifically the wheel kind. So, that had to be present within it (plus it fits with the whole PRESS part of Scablands Press).
- A scrappy or messy look was something that appealed to him. Like what happens when a press has too much or too little ink or smudges due to handling.
I think it came out pretty good!
